Many people regularly try the latest diet to the point where losing weight becomes something of an obsession. But is this really just a waste of time?

Yes you can go on a diet and lose weight but if you then go back to your old eating habits then you will put the weight back on and the whole cycle will be pointless.

It is true that people’s metabolisms vary and some people are more susceptible to putting on weight than others. Whilst this is unfortunate if you are one of these people, there is nothing you can do about it. At the end of the day if you are putting on weight you are consuming more food than you need given your metabolism and activity level.

If you are really serious about losing weight you need to accept that your lifestyle needs to change on a permanent basis. The aim should be to gradually get down to your ideal weight and stay there without starving yourself.

You can achieve a healthy weight loss by adopting a good balanced diet and avoiding certain foods as far as possible. This must include the obvious things that are good for you such as fruit and vegetables but need not totally exclude anything. There is still debate about the benefits of eating organic food (see – what is organic food) but many people believe that it is better for you and can help with losing weight. You should certainly look at organic based eating plans and make up your own mind.losing weight

Unfortunately changing your eating habits and lifestyle requires hard work and dedication although it becomes much easier after a while. You must believe in yourself i.e that you can change your habits, you will lose weight and you will feel great.

The major obstacles to successfully losing weight and keeping it off are mental. We eat for many reasons other than that we are hungry. It may be for relaxation and pleasure, emotional support or due to conditioned responses. The latter means that we have come to associate certain situations, activities or places with eating. It is necessary to break these associations and one way to do this is through weight loss hypnosis. This sort of hypnosis will not make you do something you do not want to do but, if you have decided that that you really want to succeed. it is likely to help break these conditioned responses.

Other things you can do to help you succeed in losing weight are:

  • Decide what you are going to do and stick to it. Don’t allow yourself to be deflected by the latest diet or anything else you may see or hear.
  • Be positive that you will succeed, don’t allow doubts to creep in.
  • Set yourself goals and review them regularly. If possible tell others about them as this will make it more likely you will stick to them.
  • Get the support of those around you, at the very least they should not discourage you from losing weight.
